It is no juvenile book, and for people who don't usually approach factual books as novels to be read in one hit, it makes itself very available for perusal at your leisure.Gastro Obscura’ ’s authors; Cecily Wong and Dylan Thuras, both have the pedigree expected to put together such an interesting work. Having read both, I can say with confidence that these links between ‘Gastro Obscura’ and ‘Atlas Obscura’ resonate throughout.

This book is an incredible celebration of diversity – the many fascinating ways that humanity has figured out how to feed itself. There are cod tongues in Eastern Canada; pickles brined in Kool-Aid, a specialty in the Mississippi Delta; and the cafeteria on the grounds of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, open to tourists who must pass through a radiation detector. Y., east of Binghamton, and the list of Chinese restaurants in the most far-flung locations on the globe, like Tang’s on the island of Tromsoya north of the Arctic Circle. From historical background to recent discoveries, long-held myths to unusual facts, this book is a wonder!Not until will it make you hungry, you'll also add to your Places-To-Go list, whether near or far from home. But far more than a menu of curious minds, delicacies and unexpected dishes, Gastro Obscura reveals food’s central place in humanity's history. My only disappointment was that the photography and design felt a bit dated, but I guess it’s expected for a book gathered from endless sources. What impressed me was how much ingenuity that had when they made ice cream in the desert and the use of geothermal energy to make bread. To me, the true authors are the people who wrote the original articles that make the bulk of the wonder within.
