About this deal

Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners by Dane Ortlund outlines biblical truths to help us gaze on the person and work of the Lord Jesus. The BCC exists to strengthen churches, para-church organizations, and educational institutions by promoting excellence and unity in biblical counseling as a means to accomplish compassionate outreach and effective discipleship. If you’ve ever wondered what the Bible really means by ‘fixing our gaze on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,’ this should be the next book you spend time with.

Dane Ortlund’s most recent study, Deeper, continues a discussion from previous studies such as Timothy Lane and Paul David Tripp, How People Change (2003) and David Powlison, How Does Sanctification Work? Christian growth is bringing what you do and say and even feel into line with what, in fact, you already are. Our sanctification is driven not by a need to earn our justification but from the outflow of the knowledge that we stand justified already. In this book, Dane Ortlund points believers to Christ, making the case that sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to him. Deeper Still addresses the importance of dwelling on Scripture in the midst of daily life, and does so in a way that is accessible both to people like me and to those who are new to the concept.

New York Times bestselling author of The Reckoning takes readers on an intense and imaginative tour de force in this follow up horror novel to The Descent that plunges in the depths of Earth to a Hell that is real, geological, and savagely inhabited right below our very feet. The gospel of grace is as important and vital each day of sanctification as it was the second we first believed!Be astonished at the gracious heart of Jesus Christ, proven in his atoning work in the past and his endless intercession in the present. Dane Ortlund’s newest book addresses both the need and the desire to go deeper into the Christian life.

Drawing on wisdom from figures throughout church history, Ortlund encourages readers to fix their gaze on Jesus in the battle against sin, casting themselves upon his grace and living out their invincible identity in Christ. As a graduating student, is my choice of church, career path, college, trade school, or military service a sign that I’m free to forge my own way, or am I simply bound by the standards of my parents or my culture? The book is filled with Puritan wisdom and a biblical, theological richness that is often lacking in other works on this subject. This book was much more interesting, there was a lot happening, there were many intrigues, and I feel like the characters were given more depth. In a book on sanctification, I was surprised to find almost no consideration of the role of believer in “working out their own salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil. Linda Allcock gives us a framework to help us slow down and dwell deeply on God’s word so that it clears our minds and fills our hearts, making a real difference to the way we live.
