Although the book was excellent I found myself feeling a bit doom and gloom after reading it, especially as I finished it a day after the UK PM pushing back on some of the UK green commitments. A keen photographer, in 2019 she was appointed as the coordinator and judge of Young Bird Photographer of the Year. This book takes just 20 of these amazing creatures, from the 'celebrities' of the red list - the tigers, the northern white rhino, the kakapo - to the lesser-known, and sometimes lesser loved ones, and paints a portrait of them, their world, and the people trying to protect them.An Atlas of Endangered Species shows us that the battle is on for their survival - and we all have a part to play. Richard Mackay is a specialist in environmental impact assessment and environmental policy maker for major companies. There are currently 41,415 listed endangered species, and over 16,000 of them are threatened with extinction.Packed full of wonderful pictures and deep insights into the lives of the beautiful plants and creatures the planet is in grave danger of losing - don't miss this book! The diversity of life on earth is astounding, with each species perfectly adapted to its environment. Also included is one plant species, an orchid, making me aware of the practice of plant poaching, which is making many species of plant similarly in danger of extinction. Pretty sound balance in coupling her own experiences with the essential facts for each of the species that are covered.
